To knit this beanie, you will need:

Worsted weight yarn in two colors (I used Caron Simply Soft in white and black)
Size 6 (4.00mm) knitting needles
Yarn needle

Gauge: 20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Finished size: 12 inches circumference and 6 inches tall

Instructions:

Cast on 96 stitches in white yarn.
Knit 1 row.
Change to black yarn and knit 1 row.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for a total of 6 rows.
Change to white yarn and knit 6 rows.
Change to black yarn and knit 1 row.
Change to white yarn and knit 5 rows.
**Shape the crown:**

Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat across the row.
Knit the next row.
Knit 1 stitch, knit 2 together, repeat across the row.
Knit the next row.
Repeat steps a-d until there are 12 stitches remaining.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the crown.
