Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (about 250-300 yards)
  • Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

4 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch

Sizes

  • Chest size: 18 (20, 22, 24) inches
  • Length: 12 (13, 14, 15) inches

Instructions

  1. Cast on 60 (64, 68, 72) stitches.
  2. Knit 1x1 rib for 2 inches.
  3. Switch to stockinette stitch and knit until the piece measures 10 (11, 12, 13) inches from the cast-on edge.
  4. Begin decreasing for the armholes by knitting 2 together at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
  5. Continue knitting stockinette stitch, decreasing 1 stitch at the beginning of every other row until there are 40 (44, 48, 52) stitches remaining.
  6. Knit 1x1 rib for 2 inches.
  7. Bind off all stitches.

Finishing

Weave in any loose ends. Sew the side seams and the shoulder seams.

Variations

  • Use a different type of yarn, such as a cotton blend or a wool blend.
  • Add a hood to the pullover.
  • Knit the pullover in a different color.

Tips

  • Be sure to check your gauge before starting to knit. This will ensure that your pullover fits properly.
  • If you are a beginner knitter, I recommend using a light-colored yarn so that you can easily see your stitches.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck. There are many resources available online and in your local community.

I hope you enjoy knitting this child's neck pullover. It is a quick and easy project that is perfect for beginners. With a little bit of creativity, you can customize the pullover to make it your own.
