The Shadow in the Woods

I heard a sound, but could not tell From where it came, or what it meant; A rustling in the undergrowth, A whisper carried by the wind.

I scanned the trees, their branches bare, And saw a shadow lurking there; A fleeting glimpse, a moment's sight, Of something large and dark as night.

I held my breath, my heart a-race, As fear and wonder filled my face; For in that instant, I believed That I had seen the thing they named.

A creature of the forest, old, Its secrets whispered, rarely told; The legend of Bigfoot, alive, In the shadows where the trees connive.

The Calling
